Shaolin Hung Mei History
Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu is a very old and traditional martial study with roots descending from the Shaolin Temples existing during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. While we can specifically trace our history back to the late1800’s, using indirect methods, we can look back even further. For example, while we know that our Grandmaster, Tai Shī Fù Tonny Kho’s (太師父許敬唐), Teacher, Zōng Shī Wú Shén Xĭ (宗師吳神禧) originally learned from his Mother in Indonesia, we also know that his Mother sent him back to China to study with her Teacher, Zōng Shī Léi Bái Xíng (宗師雷白行). Further, we can safely assume that Zōng Shī Léi Bái Xíng’s (宗師雷白行) martial knowledge originates in the Shandong province of northern China as so many of our northern techniques originated in that region.
Students of SHMKF are offered a unique opportunity as a result of our Tai Shī Fù having first been taught – at an early age – by his Grandfather, Huáng Shŭi Shíng (黃水行), who was a Teacher of Nan (Southern) Shaolin. Later, once his Grandfather moved from their village, Tai Shī Fù was taught by his Grandfather’s very close friend, Wú Shén Xĭ (吳神禧), a Bei (Northern) Shaolin Teacher. Our content includes elements of both Northern and Southern Shaolin resulting in an extensive curriculum of martial technique (see Martial Study) and creating the opportunity for our students, while being immersed in all methods, to specialize in those techniques which best suit the individual.
